Car thieves are becoming increasingly more Hi-Tech

As vehicles become more computerised, criminals have adapted and found new ways to get around the inbuilt security features that manufacturers install. In the two videos below, criminals can be seen using the latest form of vehicle theft, the relay attack.

The thieves use a box that is not much bigger than a tablet, they scan near the front door of the house where the vehicles are parked. This box picks up the car keys remote signal, these tend to change every 30 seconds, unfortunately, these key fobs are constantly broadcasting, the box picks up the signal and relays it to a second device that the person who will drive the vehicle is holding. This then tricks the vehicle into thinking the key is present, and therefore opens the doors and then when commanded to do so from the second box, starts the engine.

Both cars were taken in just over one minute, if either of the cars had had a Ghost immobiliser fitted, neither vehicle would have been able to have been stolen.
